What is counselling and psychotherapy?
Individual counselling and psychotherapy can enhance your relationships, boost confidence, and provide strategies to accomplish goals, aiding in the development of your full potential. When therapy is most effective, it can be transformative, empowering individuals to feel more in control, content, and fulfilled in their lives.

Counselling typically involves short-term, one-to-one support, usually at least six sessions, which can be adjusted by mutual agreement, for specific issues like relationship or family problems, or work-related difficulties. Psychotherapy provides longer-term, one-to-one therapy, allowing for an in-depth exploration of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, or grief.​​
Couples therapy is a form of counselling designed to help partners improve their relationship and resolve conflicts. It provides a safe space for both individuals to express their feelings and concerns, facilitated by a trained therapist. Through open communication, guided discussions, couples can gain insights into their patterns of behaviour, enhance their emotional connection, and develop effective strategies for managing challenges. Ultimately, the goal of couples therapy is to foster understanding and strengthen the bond between partners.
My Approach
My core training was as a person-centred therapist, which is based on Rogerian theory. This may not mean much to you, but put simply, I hold a firm belief that each of us possesses the inner strength and resilience necessary to face the challenges of life on our own, but in times of difficulty it can be hard to harness this alone and that is where I come in. Therapy is a unique journey for each person, shaped by the unique bond between therapist and client. As a fully trained professional, I can provide a safe environment for you to delve into the challenges you face. I will always follow your pace, working at the speed you're comfortable with, to foster a relationship built trust.

During couples sessions, I lean towards Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), a research based approach that focusses on the emotional connection at the heart of a relationship, helping couples to uncover and express deeper emotions instead of getting stuck in conflict patterns. This works by identifying negative cycles, accessing vulnerable emotions and building secure attachments.

In-person counselling sessions are available at my office in central Chichester. The office is a few minutes walk from the train and bus station, with multiple car parks just metres from the door. ​
